Description
A STS or ship to ship transfer is the transfer of ship’s cargo, which can be oil or gas cargo, between two merchant tanker vessels positioned alongside each other. This Training is primarily intended to familiarise Masters and ship operators with the general principles involved.
This Training aims to;
- Provide insight in ship handling principles during Ship to Ship transfer operations between seagoing tankers, LNGs and LPGs
- Provide knowledge of industry regulations, best practices, guidelines and safety recommendations
- Understand duties and liabilities
Be familiarized with safety issues regarding the STS equipment (fenders, hoses etc.)

Course Duration
Depending on the participants’ background and knowledge of the subject. Average time is 1 hour for documents and 1/2 hour for practical exercise.
Course Requirement
Ship-to-Ship transfer operation (Oil Tankers) is a very critical and specialized operation. An incorrect understanding of the various factors could be a high risk fort he Ship Handling and can lead to serious accidents.
