A First in Türkiye: The VR Revolution Starts in Maritime High Schools

Feb 17 / Maritime Trainer

At Maritime Trainer, we continue to push the boundaries of maritime training by integrating the latest technologies into the educational journey of the next generation. We are thrilled to announce our latest milestone: a strategic partnership with Piri Reis Maritime Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School (Piri Reis DMTAL) to establish a state-of-the-art VR Laboratory. This project, realized under the ISO MEİP Atilla Altuntaş Project Support Program, marks a historic moment as the first-ever VR-based maritime training infrastructure in a high school in Türkiye.

The protocol for the installation of the Learning Management Platform Integrated with VR based Serious Games was officially signed by Alparslan ÖZ, School Principal of Piri Reis DMTAL, and Engin BÜYÜKTEPE, COO of Maritime Trainer. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and onboard reality.

 Why VR?

Safety, Repetition, and Precision

The primary goal of this project is to provide students with a safe and controlled environment to experience critical maritime operations. In the high-stakes world of maritime, mistakes can be costly. By using our VR technology, students can:

  • Experience High-Risk Scenarios: Practice maneuvers that would be too dangerous or expensive to perform in real life.
  • Master Procedures: Learn through repetition until every movement becomes second nature.
  • Visualize Progress: Learning Management Platform Integrated with VR based Serious Games tracks user performance, providing clear data on a student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Fun and Motivating: Turn learning from a boring task into an enjoyable experience.

Key Training Modules in the New VR Lab

The VR laboratory will feature specialized training modules designed to prepare students for the most demanding tasks on a vessel:

Anchoring Operations

Mastering the coordination and precision required for safe anchoring.

Lifeboat Launching

Practicing emergency evacuation procedures in a realistic sea state.

Emergency Generator Operation

Ensuring power restoration during critical failures.

Enclosed Space Entry

Learning the strict safety protocols for hazardous environments.

Bridging the Gap to the Fleet

Before these students even step onto a vessel, they will have developed crucial skills such as situational awareness, correct decision-making, and procedural compliance. This "vessel-ready" approach ensures that Piri Reis DMTAL graduates enter the industry with a significant competitive advantage.

As Maritime Trainer, we are proud to lead the digital revolution in maritime training. We believe that by empowering our youth with immersive technology, we are ensuring a safer and more efficient future for the entire global maritime industry.
