Let's dive into the essential updates and what they mean for your operations.
Key Revisions in RISQ 3.2
RightShip implemented 150 updates in RISQ 3.2, including the removal or combination of approximately 30 questions, leading to an estimated 2-hour reduction in the standard inspection time.
New Sections:
Dedicated sections have been added for Ammonia Fuelled Vessels, the STS Units Questionnaire, and the Specific Heavy Lift Vessels Section.
Critical Operational Updates:
| Enclosed Space Entry (ISM System): | Requires calibrated gas detection equipment covering O2, CO2, flammables, etc., aligning with IMO MSC.581(110). |
| Pilot Ladders (ISM System): | Mandates certificate authenticity verification directly with the manufacturer or class. |
| Mooring Line Strength: | A finding is recorded if the mooring line's LDBF (Linear Density Breaking Force) is <100% of the design MBL (Minimum Breaking Load). |
| Emergency Generator: | Must be tested under load at least once per quarter. |
Hybrid Inspection Model:
RightShip encourages this model, which can reduce the onboard inspection duration from 10–12 hours to 8–10 hours by submitting specific documentation 72 hours in advance.
RISQ 3.2: Enhanced Training Requirements
The most critical changes for your crew involve the enhanced training requirements, which complement mandatory STCW certification. RightShip emphasizes structured, quality-assured training:
Formal Training Structure
Must include a clearly defined syllabus, explicit learning objectives, an assessment component, and the issuance of a certificate upon successful completion.
IMO Alignment
Where an IMO Model Course is available, the related training must be structured, developed, and delivered in accordance with the relevant IMO guidelines.
SME-Led Development
In the absence of an IMO Model Course, training must be developed in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure it is formally structured and aligned with the specific instructional area.
Instructor Qualifications
Instructors must have relevant experience and hold a recognized 'Train the Trainer' certification.
These rigorous requirements ensure that crew competency directly addresses the specific, high-risk operational areas outlined in RISQ 3.2.
