Course Content
After completing this training, the learner will be familiar with the following topics:
Define the Permit to Work (PTW) system and explain its purpose in ensuring safe working practices on board ships.
Identify the various types of work that require a PTW, including enclosed space entry, hot work, working aloft, underwater operations, working on pressurized equipment, and working on high voltage electrical equipment.
Understand the roles and responsibilities of key personnel involved in the PTW system, including the Approving Authority (AA), Responsible Authority (RA), and Work Leader (WL).
Explain the procedures for completing and approving a PTW certificate, including the necessary documentation and safety checks.
Identify the principles that should be applied when issuing and managing PTWs.
Describe the procedures for obtaining Office authorization for PTWs for specific high-risk operations, such as hot work, underwater operations, and enclosed space entry.
Understand the hazards associated with enclosed space entry and explain the procedures for ventilating and testing the atmosphere of an enclosed space.
Outline the safety precautions and protective clothing required for hot work operations.
Identify the hazards associated with working aloft and overside and discuss the necessary safety precautions and equipment.
Explain the responsibilities of the vessel and the contractor during underwater work operations, emphasizing the importance of communication and safety.
Describe the hazards associated with working on pressurized or energized equipment, pipelines, and vessels and discuss the necessary precautions.
Outline the precautions for working on high-voltage electrical equipment and the importance of electrical isolation, grounding, and proper testing procedures.
