After completing this training, the learner will be familiar with the following topics:
 Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Ship Safety Officer (SSO) as per international regulations and company policies.
 Explain the regulatory background for ship safety, including SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) and ISM Code (International Safety Management Code)
 Effectively manage the safety organization onboard by overseeing the implementation of safety management systems and procedures.
 Foster a positive safety culture that prioritizes risk prevention, continuous improvement, and open communication.
 Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards, evaluate their likelihood and severity, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
 Investigate marine casualties using established procedures, analyze contributing factors, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
 Maintain a deep understanding of relevant maritime safety legislation and ensure the vessel operates in compliance with all applicable regulations.
 Liaise effectively with shore-based personnel including company safety officers and port state control authorities on safety matters.
 Develop and deliver safety training programs for crew members, ensuring they possess the knowledge and skills to work safely onboard.
